HEALTHY NUTRITION EDUCATION

Mindful Food program runs awareness programs that educate cancer patients and caregivers on nutrition during cancer treatment and after cancer through at-home patient visits, workshops, print material, and our main event, The Bastion of Hope Cook-off which is an event where people compete to prepare food from healthy recipes in relation to cancer.

Many individuals, including cancer patients, face nutritional challenges that can impact their recovery and overall well-being. These problems often arise due to:

  1. Lack of Awareness: Many people are unaware of the importance of maintaining a balanced diet during and even after cancer treatment, which may lead to poor food choices that hinder recovery and long-term health.
  2. Side Effects of Treatment: Chemotherapy and radiation can cause side effects like nausea, loss of appetite, and changes in taste, making it difficult for patients to eat properly or meet their nutritional needs during treatment.
  3. Cultural and Dietary Misconceptions: Certain traditional dietary practices or misconceptions about what constitutes a healthy meal can contribute to poor nutritional intake.
  4. Perceived Expense of Nutrition: Many people believe that maintaining a healthy diet is expensive, and they lack the knowledge to identify affordable, locally available substitute foods that offer similar nutritional value. This misconception often leads to poor dietary choices.

At MFP, we offer Healthy Nutrition Awareness not only to cancer patients but to the broader community, educating everyone on the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Our program offers guide on nutrition during and after treatment, promoting balanced diets, portion control, and culturally appropriate, cost-effective meal planning to support long-term health and well-being.
