CANCER EDUCATION

We are a non-profit organization that supports cancer patients through cancer education to communities, and nutritional awareness. We run cancer awareness events to educate communities on regular screening and self-checks, and to destigmatize cancer.

NUTRITION EDUCATION

Mindful Food program runs awareness programs that educate cancer patients and caregivers on healthy nutrition during cancer treatment and after cancer through at-home patient visits, workshops, print material, and our main event, The Bastion of Hope Cook-off. This is an event where people compete to prepare cancer-fighting foods.  Each cancer patient at MFP is issued a meal plan to ensure a balanced diet as they undergo treatment or as they recover from treatment.

Overview of nutrition in cancer care.

Healthy eating habits are important during and after cancer treatment. A diet with a focus on plant-based foods along with regular exercise will help cancer patients keep a healthy body weight, maintain strength, and decrease side effects both during and after treatment.

Good nutrition is key for patients undergoing treatment.  A healthy diet for a cancer patient ought to be a low carbohydrate diet with more healthy protein, vegetables, and some fruits.

Mindful Food Program ensures that the patient is eating the right amount of protein and calories for healing, fighting infection, and ensuring enough energy.

Competitors come up with their recipes which should strictly be cancer-conscious.  Winners are rewarded.

FOOD BANK/ DONATIONS

We also offer nutritional support through our food banks in all our 5 regions(Nairobi, Mombasa, Bomet, Uasin Gishu and Kisumu) where patients or their caregivers can collect food items that they may be lacking. Our food banks carry different types of balanced fresh vegetables in the freezers, grains, healthy starches like sweet potatoes, pumpkin and brown rice, dried berries, and some recommended healthy fruits. These foods are received from kind donors, the majority being farmers.
